Knowledge of how your body works and the reason it is not how you want it to be is critical if you want to learn how to lose belly fat. You will know that you are pear shaped if you store fat in the lower body. Your genes dictate your body shape. Therefore, genes also affect whether you carry weight in your stomach area.

When we are stressed, our bodies will release cortisol. The action of this release triggers excess sugar that is produced by the liver. When this happens you become hungrier and naturally eat more. The tummy is the target of these additional calories.

Stress can also cause improper digestion, which manifests in gas and bloating. This is the reason why many people that suffer from bloating and gas also have stubborn belly fat.

A slow metabolism is one of the biggest reasons reasons for people becoming overweight. As we age the metabolic rate in our bodies slows down dramatically. With a slow metabolism, it becomes harder for your body to burn calories. Apple shaped people will most often have sluggish metabolism.

Watch your posture. A slouching posture can give the impression of a potbelly. Stand in the mirror and check your posture. If you slouch, then straighten up, and see how you appear less fat than is actually the case. Posture is important in terms of your confidence and appearance.

Going to bed on a full stomach is one of the unhealthiest things you can do. You have to give your food at least 3 hours to digest before retiring for the night. When you go to bed before your food has digested properly, you are bound to gain weight around your waist. If you feel you need a snack, rather snack on something healthy that digests more easily. A banana or a glass of milk will provide you with calcium that will help you sleep better. Alternatively, have a handful of nuts or raisins.

Pinpoint the reasons that you are overweight. There are a multitude of reasons why this is the case and as many benefits to losing this fat. Establishing this information will assist you in getting rid of it. Medical research reveals to us that women who are apple shaped and overweight are liable to suffer from Ischaemic Heart Disease.

It may take years of neglect before you realize that you need to lose stomach fat. Therefore, you cannot expect it to achieve fat burning the moment you strap on the latest miracle gadget. It may be a slow and frustrating process, but the benefits speak for it. Your health risks will be reduced and you will look and feel good.

By now, you should understand how to lose belly fat and why it's there in the first place. To achieve quicker and more long lasting results, an exercise program will be of immense value. Consistency is key here. The health benefits alone should keep you motivated. While you may not experience fat loss immediately, the new younger and energetic you will be well worth it.
