Surgery and Scar Care Gels - Two alternatives for treating Acne Scars

by Clarita Milles

Scars can be removed and treated a number of different ways. When scars are minor and barely noticeable, they will fade on their own. However, if a scar is large or restrictive it will probably require surgical intervention.

Scars can also be minimized by using special creams. This is by far the gentlest form of treatment, and a welcomed alternative for skin that has been damaged by such problems as acne.

Acne scars are much more prevalent in people who never treated their acne or used the wrong treatment. For this reason it is important to maintain a consistent skin care routine and use the right acne cream.

Surgical Scar Removal

Sometimes surgery is the only alternative for removing acne scars. In cases such as this there are two types of procedures that can be used: punch excision and subdermal incision or subcision. Ice pick and other atrophic scars are usually treated with punch excision while subcision is used primarily for rolling scars.

Punch excision is used to remove scar tissue by using a cookie cutter type instrument. The edges of excised skin are then sutured together to form a small straight scar. If the excised skin is too large, a skin graft is used to close the wound.

Subcision is performed by introducing a small scalpel or small scissors beneath the skin to release the upper layers of skin from the scar tissue below. This procedure produces bruising as fresh blood rushes in to occupy the space between the skin and scar tissue. But this is exactly what helps levels out the skin.

Alternatives to Surgical Scar Removal

Scars can also be treated by using scar creams or scar care gels. This type of treatment may be a better option for minor scars or new scars. They can also be used after one has undergone surgery in order to help promote scar less healing.

Natural scar gels and creams are made with special ingredients that help break down scars and promote the growth of new skin cells. For example, snail serum is a gentle natural ingredient that is known to help dissolve scar tissue. It also helps promotes the production of healthy cells and increases the production of collagen and elastin fibers.

Stay away from products that contain collagen because they won't help repair scar tissue. In fact, collagen molecules are too large to penetrate skin pores which, in essence, keeps them from reaching the site of the scar.

Laser treatment is also a viable alternative, but it's not always the right one. Consult with a dermatologist to see if you are eligible for laser treatment.

To prevent scarring, an effective acne treatment is your best bet. However, if you're struggling with severe acne then you'll need the added support of an adequate and effective acne scar treatment alternative, such as BIOSKINFORTE. This natural skin care product can help with acne scar removal as well as help treat mild to moderate forms of acne.
