Can Eating Right Alleviate your Acne?

by Grace Empson

Seeking a cure or remedy for acne is the main crusade for those who suffer from acne. The type and severity of your acne will always condition the response. However, there are some common treatments independent of the type of acne in question.

The following article focuses on the relationship between what you eat and the way it can affect your acne problems. There is some controversy regarding this link. But one thing is certain: when excessive sebum production is coupled with the accumulation of toxins in the skin, there is a higher risk for acne problems.

Therefore, we must ask ourselves: where do these toxins come from and why do they lodge themselves in the skin?

The accumulated toxins are generally due to the daily intake of poor quality protein. Cooked proteins are also problematic foods. Heat destroys and/or changes essential nutrients. New and harmful elements can be formed during the preparation of animal or vegetable foods.

Digestive enzymes break down protein amino acids but only if the targeted part of the protein matches a specific enzyme. If heat has somehow changed the composition of the amino acids, the enzymes will not be able to fulfill their purpose. They will, instead, be deposited into the skin as toxins.

The accumulated toxins begin attracting moisture both from within the skin and from the superficial layers. The buildup of water begins pinching off or constricting the sebaceous glands. In this constricted state, the glands are more likely to accumulate pus and produce swelling and infection.

This is why changing your dietary habits can be an ideal acne skin care.

How to Keep your Skin Free from Toxins

A healthy diet is a good option to keep your skin toxin free. The first thing to do is to avoid poor quality protein such as low grade animal products. In place of them choose legumes, nuts, complex carbohydrates and high quality proteins such as fish and lean meats.

Second, do not overcook any of your foods. There is a desired cooking period for each food. Foods begin to loose their vitamins and minerals if they are overcooked.

Third, maintain a steady supply of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Fruits will add vitamins, antioxidants and good quality, simple carbohydrates to your diet. Vegetables will supply you with fiber that will help keep your system free of tainted proteins.

Finally, don't forget to drink plenty of water during the day. The water will help keep you hydrated and help flush additional toxins from your system.

Avoid foods that contain high levels of sodium. Foods containing large amounts of salt and spices are the most common triggers. Packaged foods like potato chips and canned foods are the main culprits.

A Natural Therapy for Acne

Since certain foods provoke acne problems, it's reasonable to think that improving your diet can be the best acne treatment. The appropriate "acne diet" can greatly improve your skin without depending on harsh acne medication. It would be erroneous to think that a healthy diet could lead to a 2 day acne cure or that you could be acne free in 3 days but it can improve your skin in a short time if you are consistent.

Modifying your diet can be an excellent acne treatment and skin care treatment. Best of all, the changes are simple and can keep you away from harsh, chemical products. For acne scar removal and acne scarring treatment make sure to seek out the proper skin care products and consult with your physician.
